Deep thinking....

So over the past few months I have been thinking how complex things have become. Everything from food to cleaning supplies, to technology. Dont get me wrong I am deeply greatful for all of our modern conveinences! However I have come to the conclusion that in some ways we have alomst become chained to them. For example... About 2 months ago I was cleaning out my under-the-sink cabinet full of cleaners... which included Kitchen counter cleaner, bathroom cleaner, floor cleaner, "deep" cleaner, stove cleaner, wood cleaner, wood polisher, cleaning wipes, lysol, carpet cleaner, pet carpet cleaner, carpet shampoo, dish washing detergent, and dish soap! Oh and about 3 different types of anitbacterial spray... then I started to think huh....Maybe I have been prey to the advertisement industry! No to mention just how toxic each of those are if your kids get a hold of them... even with baby proofing, if your kids are like mine, they have quickly learned how to manuver around the cabinet locks! How on earth did people survive 10's of thousands of years without disenfectants???  Then I started tallying up costs of stuff in how much I was spending a just in cleaner, and this was my break down (keep in mind these are just averages), Laundry $19, fabric softener $5, dryer sheets $5, Kitchen cleaner $2.50, bathroom cleaner $2.50, floor cleaner $3, "deep" cleaner (like soft scrub) $3, glass cleaners $3, dish washing detergent $4, dish soap $3. Then there is personal cleaners like body wash hand soap, and things of that nature. But just in household cleaners it was like $50 a months thats $600 per year just in household cleaners!!!! WHAT!!!!! That is not including personal hygiene items!!! So after that I realized its time to find alternatives to this mess!! So after searching the internet, and some experamenting I have found, and am finding cheap soultions (not to mention kid safe!!)

So after my big "cleaner epiphany" I have been thinking of other things in our day to day life that can be simplified... So in this I have discovered my new years resolution for 2012 ( yes I know we are like 2 weeks in to the new year but better late than never) my goal is to "Simlplify our Life". Maybe like a good balance of the old ways with the new ways. After this weekend I will post some of my findings!!
